Nashville-based Lips Speak Louder pairs hooky pop melodies with blistering guitar and bombastic drums to create an undeniable rock sound with a grunge edge straight from the duo’s 90’s and early 2000’s influences.
It didn’t take long for Rachel Brandsness and Angela Lese - the ultra-talented pairing behind Lips Speak Louder - to realize they had a strong musical connection. In fact, it was within about a year of meeting and working on several endeavors together that the music industry veterans decided to join forces and create the kind of formidable rock duo they had each long envisioned. Tapping into a deep and diverse experiential pool and drawing from a wide swath of influences - from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Queens of the Stone Age, to Garbage, Bully, and The Killers - Brandsness and Lese embarked on their new project in 2023 asking themselves one key question: just how big of a sonic profile could they create with only two people? The answer, as it turns out, is a pretty powerful one.
The first singles from Lips Speak Louder’s debut album – produced by renowned guitarist Emily Wolfe – are streaming now, with the full, 10-song recording coming in early 2025.
“Lips Speak Louder is an incredibly authentic rock band. Not only are they great people, but their musicianship is unlike anything I've ever seen in the studio. The work ethic they put forth to create their debut record was inspiring and made me proud to watch. This record is a throwback to the way rock used to be - raw, powerful, fun, and full of impressive melodic twists and turns that make you want to dance, raise your fists, and breathe a sigh of relief that the rock genre is headed back to something real." - Emily Wolfe - Producer, Guitarist, Artist
“Haven’t seen a duo kick some serious *** like that since I saw an early-ish Local H show in the mid-nineties.” - Mike Malinin - former drummer - Goo Goo Dolls
“The lazy thing is to lump these guys into the White Stripes/Black Keys/Left Lane Cruiser camp, but they come out a bit more different than your average guitar/drum combo that was all the rage a few years ago. They actually tend to sound more like a leaner, meaner Show Your Bones-era Yeah Yeah Yeahs. It goes beyond simply sounding like Karen O. The Guitar and punishing drum sound explores the outer-most reaches of this guitar/drum territory. It makes for angry yet tender songs that slap. Hard.” - Jeff Napier - Nuvo Indy - Read Full Article
